12th of Never Ale
12th of Never Ale - 5.5% ABV
Lagunita's Brewing Company
Pale Ale - American
The 12th of Never Ale pours a clean, light golden yellow with about a finger of head. The head dissipates quickly, and you can see a few bubbles continue to float up through the beer.
There's not a strong nose on this beer, but if you really get in there, you'll smell the hops. It sips as a super refreshing beer, bright and citrusy. There's a bit of bitterness on the back of your tongue, but it's very mild. Honestly, with this can, it came across almost metallic in flavor — nothing major, but just a slight tang of metal. I'm not sure if that's the hops or the can.
On a larger swig, there's a slight fruitiness as the beer washes over your tongue, followed by the bitter bite of the hops. The metal is not noticeable on a bigger sip.
The mouthfeel is effervescent, where you might not be able to feel bubbles like you would with, say, champagne, but you feel that slight dryness on your tongue that can come after a glass of wine.
Overall this beer offers a lighter, more refreshing option on your typical hop-forward beer. While some people find that piney IPAs can be a little too aggressive in the heat, I would say this beer is borderline crushable. I grabbed this beer after a few friends left it behind, but this is definitely something I'd pick up in the store.
